German defense minister Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) wants to see “sex lessons” for the German Bundeswehr (army) to promote “open-mindedness towards sexual minorities” among German soldiers.

On January 31, the first event with the title “Dealing with sexual identity and orientation in the Bundeswehr” will take place. Invited are Bundestag parlamentarians and the commanders of joint forces of the army.

Von der Leyen is convinced that “diversity” is important for the “future of the Bundeswehr”. The German newspaper Bild reports that around 17 000 homosexual, bisexual and so-called “transgender” soldiers serve in the German army.
