Canadian man changes gender for cheaper insurance
A Canadian inhabitant from Alberta, legally changed his gender in order pay less on car insurance rates since women pay lower premiums.

The transgender community is up in arms about the man called “David” who boasted about his lower payments.
In a Reddit post titled, “I saved 15 percent or more on car insurance by switching my gender,” David explained. “I am now a woman. I now pay $1100 less for auto insurance. I won. The end.”
Previously, citizens had to provide evidence of genital surgery, but regulations put in place in 2015 allow Albertans to amend their birth certificates without it.
These days they only have to “submit a signed affidavit stating the gender they identify as, along with a supporting letter from an accredited physician or psychologist”.
“It was pretty simple. I just basically asked for it and told (the doctor) that I identify as a woman, or I’d like to identify as a woman, and he wrote me the letter I wanted,” David told Canadian broadcaster CBC.
On his Driver’s License David’s sex has been changed to female after his Birth Certificate was amended to show his new gender and he then reported the change to his insurance company, dropping his annual fee from $4 517 to $3 423.
Many activists, politicians and people in the trans community expressed anger over his gender conversion, but David claims he never meant disrespect to transgenders. “I did it for cheaper car insurance.” he said.
Marie Little, the former chair of the Trans Alliance Society, said: “I think it cheapens the whole process.”
In 2016 already, Canadian journalist Lauren Southern revealed how easy it was for a Canadian citizen to legally change their gender and racial identity.
Southern went through the processes of changing her gender designation from female to male, documenting how easy it is to change gender markers on government and medical documents, and showing the sinister implications for society in how her stress-free experiences were.
In Canada however misgendering is considered a serious crime, meaning that calling Southern a woman or referring to her as “she” could carry a prison sentence. It may be illegal to deny her access to any male-only spaces.
Nobody will be able to say “But you look like a girl!” because Canadian law will say it is a serious crime to state what you actually see in front of you.
