At an international press conference about recently held elections in Donbass, observers from France and Greece give the presidential and parliamentarian elections in both People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk the best possible rating.
Thierry Mariani, was the most senior politician to go to eastern Ukraine last Sunday, on November 11. He is a former Transport Minister from Les Republicans, a centre-right, Gaullist and conservative political party in France. Following the 2017 French legislative election, Les Republicains remains the second largest party in the National Assembly behind President Macron’s REM, and is a member of the European People’s Party.
Mariani was one of 81 foreigners who traveled to the two People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk to monitor the elections held there. Mariani confirmed that the elections were fair and “regular”.
The Greek observer, former Deputy Defense Minister Kostas Isihos, confirmed that the elections took place with full implementation of international standards.
