Called the “State of American Patriotism”, the survey was commissioned by the Foundation for Liberty and American Greatness (FLAG), a non-profit conservative group that would like to educate Americans “about the values and principles that make our nation exceptional”.
Four in ten millenials believe burning the US flag is no problem, while one in five said the flag was “a sign of intolerance and hatred”.
Some 84 percent of Americans of all ages have no idea of the specific rights enumerated in their First Amendment. The First Amendment to the Constitution protects five basic freedoms: freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and freedom to petition the government. These civil liberties are considered to be the cornerstone of US democracy.
Half of all Americans believe the United States is “sexist and racist”, while 38 percent of younger Americans disagree that “America has a history that we should be proud of”.
Nick Adams, founder of FLAG, said: “We were totally unprepared for what our national survey reveals: an epidemic of anti-Americanism.
“That half of millenials and Gen Z believe that the country in which they live is both ‘racist’ and ‘sexist’ shows that we have a major fraction of an entire generation that has been indoctrinated by teachers starting in grade school that America is what’s wrong with the world.”
While Adams tends to blame education for such extreme views, mainstream media has also played a role in brainwashing young Americans to despise their own country.
