Despite a lifetime of research in the field, Ray Blanchard, PhD, saw his Twitter account locked after he responsed to a follower who had asked him: “What is your actual position on transgender people?”

Blanchard is considered one of the world’s leading experts on gender dysphoria. He believes that transsexualism is a type of mental disorder, even if the individual is capable of average or even above-average functioning in unrelated areas of life.

“Gender dysphoria is not a sexual orientation, but it is virtually always preceded or accompanied by an atypical sexual orientation – in males, either homosexuality (sexual arousal by members of one’s own biological sex) . . . or autogynephilia (sexual arousal at the thought or image of oneself as a female).

“There are two main types of gender dysphoria in males, one associated with homosexuality and one associated with autogynephilia. Traditionally, the great bulk of female-to-male transsexuals has been homosexual in erotic object choice.”

The academic also tweeted that sex change surgery should not be considered for any patient “until that patient has reached the age of 21 years and has lived for at least two years in the desired gender role”.

Transgender activists have been advocating hormonal and surgical treatments for minors, even children, with some researchers receiving government grants to experiment on 8-year-old children. A British transgender activist took her 15-year-old son to Thailand to get him castrated.

Studies have shown however that the vast majority of children who identify as supposedly transgender will revert to their biological sex after they go through puberty.

Blanchard’s opinion is informed by his extended clinical experience in this particular field, but his well-reasoned position was flagged for “hateful conduct”.

The professor has served on the working group for gender dysphoria for the DSM-5, The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which is the gold standard of definitions helping psychologists diagnose disorders for patients.

Blanchard’s suspension resulted in widespread outrage. Twitter’s rules on “misgendering” and “deadnaming” transsexuals demand that social media users submit to the platform’s radical, far-left gender ideology or risk being banned.

Twitter’s “hateful conduct” policy mandates that users not “deadname” transgender people by referring to them by their original birth names or “misgender” such people. “Misgendering” means referring to such individuals by using their actual biological gender type rather than the gender they’ve chosen to identify with.
