The German regional Weserkurier, reported that the attack on the police station in the Schwachhausen district of Bremen may have been perpetrated by the far-left.
During the night of Sunday, unknown persons had set fire to two police cars in front of the police station. Also on the building was set fire. On the left-extremist Internet platform Indymedia a letter claiming the violence had appeared. In it, the authors boasted that they had set fire to the main entrance with ten liters of gasoline.
The act was a solidarity action for “the 3 of the park bench” from Hamburg. Three members of the extreme left-wing scene – two men and a woman – were arrested by the police on the night of 8 July. According to investigations of the Hamburg state protection, they are suspected of having planned an arson attack.
During their search, police found incendiary devices and barbecue lighters.
On July 8, 2017, there were serious riots by left-wing extremists in Hamburg during the G20 summit. The investigators suspect that the three suspects had planned offenses on the occasion of the anniversary. Bremen Interior Senator Ulrich Mäurer (SPD) condemned the attack. “We are lucky that nobody was hurt.”
At the end of May this year in Bremen, police officers were attacked by 300 alleged left extreme rioters and shops were damaged. The riots broke out in the Ostertorviertel after an intersection was occupied, the police said.
The rioters blocked a road junction after officials arrived and asked the crowd to clear the intersection where youth had been playing football and lighting fireworks. The mood quickly soured.
The police speak of “targeted, massive attacks on the forces” that folowed. The partially masked offenders lanced bottles at the officers and destroyed shop windows of some shops, lighting tires and pallets on the street.
