Fox News host highlights killings of white farmers in South Africa

On Wednesday, a third white-owned farm was attacked in the same area of the Cape Winelands, where winemaker Stefan Smit was murdered last week. The Western Cape government is worried that the area has now become “a hot spot for farm attacks”.

The New York Times had interviewed Smit in March about the struggle for land in the country’s wine region. In the same interview, the claims that South African farmers were being murdered in large numbers and forced off their land were denounced as “false or exaggerated allegations” by the newspaper.

But Carlson underscored that “hundreds” of white farmers have been killed, “some of whom after suffering horrific tortures”. And yet, the South African government has responded not by “protecting the farmers” but by working “to change the country laws in order to seize land without compensation”.

“And skin color is a central motivation here,” the Fox News host said, stating the obvious. “Nobody denies that. Let’s be clear about what is happening. This is racist violence, as brutal and horrifying and indefensible as anything that happened under Apartheid.”

Tucker added: “Last year, the New York Times called this show immoral for even suggesting that farm murders might be a problem. But there is one problem for the Times: Their own interview subjects are getting murdered.”

On the same day Smit was murdered, “an elderly couple’s house was broken into on a farm nearby”. “Three black armed suspects gained entry to the house and threatened the two occupants, both aged 70. They are yet to be arrested.”

During a separate incident on Tuesday morning, a woman was attacked by robbers in her house on a Klapmuts farm, in the same area in Stellenbosch, ewn.co.za reported.

According to Bloomberg the proposed race-based land seizures will super charge the economy, but in Zimbabwe the confiscation of white-owned farms turned the country into the poorest in the world. And in a twist of irony, hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans have since fled to South Africa to work on white-owned farms to escape hunger and poverty.

The murder of Smit is the second high-level killing of an outspoken critic against the ruling ANC’s policy of land grabs in South Africa in less than a month.

The tweeter, Kallie Kriel, was referring to activist Annette Kennealy, 51, who was beaten to death in a brutal hammer attack in the northern province of Limpopo.

“According to the New York Times, they deserved it,” Tucker concluded.
