The intellectual dishonesty of open border humanitarians
While open border enthusiasts rage against President Trump’s immigration policies, saying that America should open its borders to the millions of impoverished and persecuted individuals around the world for humanitarian reasons, their proposals would not solve much.

So says journalist Roy Beck, because for every million brought into the United States, another 80 million people yearly are born into countries with extreme levels of poverty, violence or war. According to Beck, even opening US borders to five million more people per year would do nothing to stem the the real problems.
The US takes in one million people per year, but in the grand scheme of things this changes nothing in the world.
According to Census Bureau statistics, some 1.3 million foreign-born individuals legally immigrated to the United States in 2014. That does not include the almost one million immigrants that enter the country illegally each year.
Beck explains why open borders simply will not work. Those who support unlimited immigration have said that white nations need to take in even more people, while non-white nations may keep their borders and nationalism.
“We never get ahead of what’s happening in these countries… Don’t you see? Immigration can never be an effective or significant way to deal with the suffering people of the world… they have to be helped where they live…
“99.9 percent of them will never be able to immigrate to a rich country… there is no hope for that… they have to bloom where they’re planted… the only place that 99.9 percent of these people can be helped is where they live… let’s help them there.”
Immigration is being used as a justification for violence and anti-white racism. And for those who follow such narratives blindly and shun rational thought, they are not encouraged to consider the reality of bringing in millions of immigrants from impoverished countries.
In 2015, only 2 billion people live in the Developed World, while the other 5.2 billion people live in the Developing World. It is thus a form of intellectual dishonesty to pretend that global poverty and the resultant refugee crisis can be solved via higher levels of immigration to the Developed World.
The US federal government alone currently funds and operates 126 different welfare or anti-poverty programs. Federal welfare spending alone totals more than $14,848 for every poor man, woman, and child. For a typical poor family of three, that amounts to more than $44,500. Combined with state and local spending, the government spends $20,000 for every poor person in America, or $61,830 per poor family of three.
Millions more immigrants would result in the US welfare system being crippled, without making even a dent on world poverty.
“Even if we went by the most radical proposals in Washington, which are to actually double our immigration to two million year… which would totally overwhelm our physical, natural and social infrastructures, we couldn’t even make a visible difference,” says Beck.
