Illegal immigrants continue to settle in the US

Some 1,5 million illegal immigrants will be added to the population of the United States by the end of the year, should current rates of "Catch and Release", border crossings, and visa overstays continue.

In 2019, the US Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Catch and Release policy — whereby border crossers and illegal immigrants are released from federal custody inside the US — is on track to add roughly 434 000 illegal border crossers and immigrants to the country.

This estimation is based on current figures showing that 36 000 border crossers and illegal immigrants have been released from DHS custody every month since the beginning of the year.

Additionally, a researcher form Princeton Policy Advisors projected that in 2019, there will be up to 500 000 illegals at the southern border who manage to successfully cross into the US undetected by Border Patrol agents.

These are foreign nationals are usually only deported after they commit a crime in the US. If the stay clear of the criminal justice system, federal immigration officials mostly are unaware of their presence.

Ending illegal immigration to the United States has been the top priority for Republican voters, a new survey has revealed.

In the latest comprehensive survey conducted by Pew Research Center, some 65 percent of GOP voters said the highest priority of the Republican Party should be ending illegal immigration and reducing the the numbers of such people currently living in the country.

The tidal wave of illegal immigration has stagnated US wages for decades while wiping out America’s working and middle class and benefitting higher income earners.

The Pew Research survey showed that Republican voters, by a majority, view illegal immigration as a burden to their quality of life that will impact future generations. According to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data, the overwhelming majority are never deported.

There are some 11 to 22 million illegal immigrants living in the US contributing to wage stagnation, research by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine found.

This constant stream of newcomers shifts about $500 billion in wages away from working and middle class Americans toward new arrivals and economic elites.

Every one percent increase in the immigrant composition of an American workers’ occupation reduces their weekly wages by about 0.5 percent, researcher Steven Camarotta found. Thus the average American worker sees his weekly wages reduced by around 8,5 percent as a result of current legal immigration levels.

In a state like Florida, where immigrants are already 25,4 percent of the labour force, American workers see their weekly wages reduced by more than 12,5 percent. In California, where immigrants make up 34 percent of the labour force, American workers’ weekly wages are reduced by 17 percent.

In 2017, the foreign-born population reached a record high of 44,5 million. Nearly 15 million new foreign-born voters will arrive in the next two decades should current legal immigration levels continue, and eight million of those new arrivals will be admitted through chain migration.
