Dramatic rise of black gun owners in US
The rise in gun ownership in the United States has spiked more than any other time in recent history – the highest since the FBI began recording the statistics 22 years ago. But it is also Democrats, not only Republicans, who have been rushing out to buy weapons.

This is a change from a few years ago: In 2016, the NRA donated $30 million to elect Donald Trump, making the group the biggest outside donor in support of his campaign.
In the first half of 2020, gun sales have increased by 95 percent, (ten million guns), ammunition sales are up by 139 percent. These numbers eclipse all of the sales for 2019. The highest increase is among black men and women with 58,2 percent.
While Republicans have always supported gun rights and the NRA, the enormous increase in gun ownership is now also driven by black voters – the key demographic for the Democratic Party. This suggests that in the wake of BLM riots, leftist anti-gun lobbies have lost their appeal. These numbers represent legal sales and do not account for the illegal acquisitions of guns.
Already black gun violence kills more young black men than the nine other top causes of death combined. Also, people evidently no longer feel safe in their own communities because they see the police being defunded and ordered to stand down while BLM rioters and looters destroy their small businesses.
The Democrats have notably promoted and justified the recent violence. This has encouraged BLM rioters, emboldened by political sympathy expressed by Democratic leaders in cities like Seattle and Portland. As a result, almost half of all black-owned businesses in affected cities have been destroyed by either rioting or the Covid-19 lockdown.
Thus President Trump commented last week that “this election will determine the future of private gun ownership in the United States” because new black gun owners will not easily vote to lose their Second Amendment right to self-defense.
