American fans punish US sports leagues for BLM messaging

A new poll has revealed that the BLM movement's effort to use US sports leagues as a platform for their political message, is not popular with fans.

A Gallup survey conducted Jul 30-Aug 12, 2020, showed that only 30 percent of Americans have a positive view of the industry against 40 percent who view it negatively.

A sports league is a professional body that governs the competition of its teams. League contracts offer profit sharing for broadcast and merchandising rights. Also, league teams earn revenue from stadium advertising, pouring rights for beverages, programme and tickets sales, which means that they need fans.

In Aug 2019, the sports leagues overall rating was +20, with 45 percent viewing it positively and 25 percent negatively. But today the overall rating has dropped to -10 – signalling a massive -30 drop.

“Sports has also lost more support from non-White than White Americans, but given the extraordinarily high ratings from non-White adults a year ago, this group continues to view the sports industry positively on balance today. That is not the case with White adults, who now view the sports industry more negatively than positively, and by a 22-point margin.”

A significant 38 percent NBA fans also toll pollster Harris last week that they were watching fewer games than before. “‘The league has become too political’ was the clear choice for the decline, with 38 percent of respondents,” the Harris poll found.

According to sport channel Game 7  the NBA’s ratings are in “free fall” because of its BLM slant, down 27 percent in one year in spite of the once popular playoff season.

    1. Good, there is nothing worse than a millionaire ball-thrower who blames the country which allowed the to become rich ball-throwers and the majority white fan-base they have! Let all of them do with less pay and less ferraris and smaller mansions!
