This fresh attack comes in the wake of an attack on the Champigny-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne) police station by around forty assaillants.
In Mons-en-Barœul, also in the north of France near Lille, firefighters were targeted by gunfire, forcing the French police elite tactical unit, the RAID to intervene.
The fire brigade had been called out for a car fire on Wednesday evening in Mons-en-Baroeul. The firefighters of the Lille-Bouvines barracks were shocked because while trying to extinguish the flames, the firefighters came under “several firearm shots” reported the Departmental Service of Fire and Rescue of the North (SDIS 59).
The firefighters then retreated and the RAID intervened. The operation lasted for two hours and a man was arrested. No firefighter was injured.
The chief of staff of the prefect of the North went to Mons-en-Baroeul, the Departmental Director of Public Security went to meet the firefighters at the Bouvines barracks in Lille.
