From 2000 to 2020, France recorded a ‘murder epidemic’

With a peak of 4 472 murders in 2020, France recorded one of its worst scores in 20 years. Criminologist Alain Bauer speaks of a “murder epidemic”. Murders jumped by 90 percent in the country.

Last year, French weekly Valeurs Actuelles had listed all the murders that had punctuated the summer of 2020. To define these many violent miscellaneous facts, the newspaper had used the term “enslavement” of society through violence.

The criminologist Alain Bauer has decided to combine all these acts to create his own indicator, called “homicidity”, he revealed in Parisian daily Le Figaro.

Thus, Alain Bauer counted six categories of murders in order to draw up the most accurate possible compilation of this violence which is claiming ever-increasing numbers of victims in France. Violence leading to death had already jumped from 1972 to 1983 (+52 percent), slowing down somewhat until 2011. From that year onward, the number of murders continued to increase, notably with the series of attacks that France experienced in 2015, at the Bataclan and on French streets.

Alain Bauer surprisingly noted that the number of murders did not decrease after the Islamist attacks. “We might have expected the figures to come down after the attacks in Paris and Nice but the number of victims has only increased,” he noted. In 20 years, the number of murders has jumped by 91 percent, from 2 338 to 4 472 victims. In comparison with the figures for 1972, the increase is even 113 percent.

According to Alain Bauer, there is a “deep movement of return to physical violence, particularly in the West”. And this is being “ignored or underestimated”. For the former grand master of the largest of several Ma必利勁
sonic organizations in France and the oldest in Continental Europe, the Grand Orient de France, the causes are multiple: the social crisis, the health crisis, calls for murders on social networks.

And those who are most able to understand this pathological violence in society are “the police and gendarmerie services, which are perfectly aware of it”.
