Netherlands: Citizens Forced to Pay for Forest Walks

Private foundations are blocking off forests with barriers, QR codes and payment machines – forcing citizens to pay for their freedom of movement.

At forest areas such as Pan van Persijn, physical barriers have been erected with a requirement to pay a fee at a machine at the gate. When De Hoge Veluwe National Park earlier this year raised the fee for walkers to 13.85 euros per adult and 6.95 euros per child (6–13 years), it sparked new protests.

The Netherlands has had symbolic fees since the 1930s. When the system was privatized and automated in the 1990s, many people raised the alarm, but most people didn’t care as the fees were the equivalent of a few kroner. Slowly but surely, the infrastructure developed while the fees remained low.

With the corona virus, which started The Great Reset in 2020, everything changed in one fell swoop. The cashless infrastructure with entrance and parking machines and various physical barriers, which had been installed over several decades, meant that the giant private organization Natuurmonumenten was able to block off nature in no time and raise fees by 25–50 percent. The protests were then drowned in the rage against draconian corona restrictions, lockdowns and forced vaccinations. This year, the issue has come into focus again.

Popular anger

In the regional newspaper De Gelderlander, residents expressed their dismay at the transformation of nature into a commercial luxury. One contributor bluntly stated that “this will become a park for the rich.”

It’s not just about ticket prices, but about a deeper conflict of principles about who nature belongs to. Ella de Hullu, chairwoman of the non-profit environmental and cultural heritage foundation Veluwse Bekenstichting, sharply criticized how the large organizations have taken control:

“They are claiming exclusive rights. If we accept this, it will create problems in other areas as well.”

This is a global technocratic transformation in line with the UN’s Agenda 2030, driven by networks such as the European Forest Institute (EFI) after what they call “validation of ecosystem services”. It emerges in their document that nature should no longer be considered a free resource for citizens, but be transformed into “financial entities for climate credits.”

Forest owners have also sounded the alarm in the local newspaper De Stentor that withdrawn government funding is forcing them to demand fees from walkers. Many accept traditional symbolic fees, but not to demand between 450 and 620 kronor from a family of two children for a forest walk of a few hours.

Dystopian plans

Critics within various freedom movements warn that the system is gradually dismantling freedom of movement, a fundamental human right. By phasing out cash and forcing citizens to use digital barriers, apps and QR codes, a system of control over the individual is being created – a development that is now accelerating at a rapid pace.

Research reports and scientific future analyses (so-called horizon scans) on modern forest management, including “A horizon scan of global issues on forests and livelihoods for 2026”, published on April 1 in the scientific journal Forest Policy and Economics, confirm this trend. The researchers explicitly warn that the integration of digital ID systems and AI-driven surveillance in nature leads to “exclusion through surveillance”.

The result is a faceless technocratic governance in which the individual is considered an environmental burden – who, in the name of the globalist agenda, must be monitored, registered and forced to pay for every step taken outside the cities, which in turn are to be divided, blocked off and tolled.
