Militia of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) maintain that a helicopter downed on Thursday, had been carrying instructors from NATO’s member states.
A spokesman for the DPR Operations, Eduard Basurin told journalists on Friday that there were several NATO military instructors on board the helicopter that landed on the outskirts of the Krasnogorovka settlement.
“Several military instructors from NATO member states onboard during the combat flight,” Basurin told the Donetsk News Agency.
According to the DPR command sources, the area has been locked down and mobile communication has been turned off.
DRP leader Alexander Zakharchenko announced on Thursday that the Ukrainian military, with the support of a combat helicopter, had attempted an attack on the DPR militia’s positions but the helicopter had been shot down.
The Minsk Memorandum dated Septebmer 19, 2014, bans the use of combat aviation and unmanned aircraft in the ceasefire zone along the line of contact, excluding unmanned airial surveillance by the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission.
It is not yet clear whether there were any casualties.
A spokesperson for NATO told the British Daily Star Online: ““There is no military personnel under NATO command in eastern Ukraine.
“For any questions regarding the operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in eastern Ukraine, please refer to the Ukrainian authorities.”
