People in the United States who identified themselves in US federal campaign finance filings as “journalists, reporters, news editors or television news anchors”, as well as other donors known to be involved in journalism, have given almost $400 000 to the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton, according to analysis by the Center for Public Integrity.
Nearly all of that money — more than 96 percent — has benefited Clinton.
Some 400 hacks working in journalism have, during August, combined to give roughly $400 000 to the Democratic nominee, the Center for Public Integrity indicated, while only 50 identifiable journalists have given a total of $14 000 to Trump.
Federal candidates are legally required only to disclose the names of people making contributions of more than $200 during a single election cycle, along with their addresses, employer and occupation.
Pulitzer Prize winner Emily Nussbaum, who rages against the Republican presidential nominee for running an “ugly and xenophobic campaign” has not made her contribution to Clinton in April known, although she’s all for transparency and virtue.
Emerson College distinguished journalist-in-residence, Carole Simpson, a former ABC “World News Tonight” anchor who in 1992 became the first African-American woman to moderate a presidential debate, has given Clinton $2 800.
It’s likely that many more journalists have given to the Clinton camp, but in amounts too small to trigger reporting requirements, and while many of them don’t primarily edit or report on political news, some do.
