At least 62 people in the United States this year have launched ISIS attacks or been accused of plotting to sow terror with hate-fueled plans to slaughter unsuspecting fellow citizens.
Analysis by DailyMail.com shows of the attackers and alleged plotters, 21 were immigrants and a further 13 were the children of immigrants from Muslim countries. At least 13 were Americans who converted to Islam, and took up its most extreme form.
Islamists were responsible for 64 deaths and at least 121 wounded, including the San Bernardino and Pulse massacres in the United States.
The issue of immigrantion and refugees has been a hot topic in the current US 2016 presidential race, with Donald Trump vowing to keep new unwanted arrivals out with a wall on the Mexican border and to deport illegal immigrants already in the country.
Trump also called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” following an Islamic State mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, by a husband-and-wife team last December.
But his vice presidential running mate Mike Pence said on Thursday Trump has backed away from a total ban on Muslims entering the United States after critics had called the proposed ban “discriminatory” and a violation of the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of freedom of religion.
Pence said during a series of television interviews that if elected on Nov. 8, Trump would suspend immigration only from “countries that have been compromised by terrorism”.
Official documents reveal individuals, many from countries including Pakistan and Somalia, obsessed with extremist propaganda.
Many of those awaiting trial were caught by the FBI in stings. The agency says it is a necessary step in the prevention and disruption of ISIS attacks.
Earlier this month FBI director James Comey warned that as ISIS is purged from its home territory in Syria and Iraq, a “terrorist diaspora” could spread across the globe.
Public records show that six ISIS-inspired attackers have died and 54 have been arrested.
The number of people entering the US as refugees to committ these acts, could be higher, as it was not possible to ascertain exactly how many of the alleged ISIS attackers or plotters entered America.
