Some 80 percent, or four fifths of Czechs say they do not accept the EU’s quotas for housing migrants in their country.
More than half, or 55 percent of those surveyed, responded with an outright no to the quotas, while 25 percent leaned strongly towards rejection. Only 11 percent supported migrant quotas.
Incredibly, even if faced with losing considerable amounts in EU funding, the threat did not impact the public opinion, CVVM noted.
The poll corresponds to a view of the public on the acceptance of migrants from Muslim countries in most eastern European nations.
In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, 81 and 82 percent of the respondents, respectively, were opposed to the acceptance of migrants from Muslim countries and in Poland 74 percent were opposed to it.
Leftwing voters were more accepting of migrants generally, while acceptance of the EU-impose the quotas was only slightly higher in groups with a higher living standard.
Voters of the right centre represented a higher share of those agreeing with the quotas, but from April to October, the share of Czechs absolutely rejecting refugees from countries with armed conflicts, have markedly increased to 69 percent. One fourth of Czechs would accept these refugees only temporarily.
Most Czechs consider refugees from countries where armed conflicts are raging, a major security threat to Europe. At least 88 percent would reject such applicants, while 78 percent of Czechs thought migrants from the rest of the world were not welcome.
Slovaks hold a similar position, while Poles are more open to accepting refugees from regions hit by war.
During the two-day EU summit in Brussels last week to discuss the migrant crisis, no solution was put forward.
The Visegrad Four countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary) refused to budge at the joint meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Italian prime minister Paolo Gentiloni.
