This census “is not based on a statistical categorization but is the result of reports issued by the prefects,” said a source from Place Beauvau, at the Interior Ministry.
The UDMF has thus deposited lists in the fifth arrondissement of Paris, in Nanterre, Clichy-la-Garenne but also in Joué-lès-Tours (Indre-et-Loire) and Châtellerault (Vienne). Two lists considered “ethnic” have also been reported in the metropolitan area of Lyon.
In Garges-les-Gonesse (Val-d’Oise), the list led by the founder of the Collective against Islamophobia (CCIF), Samy Debah has also been listed as “ethnic”. Ditto for the list “Living together in Annecy” in Haute-Savoie and one of the six lists submitted for the town of Gennevilliers.
In Nice, meanwhile, RN deputy Philippe Vardon accused the mayor of Nice of having lied about a plot of land that the city has made available for the construction of a “Great Mosque”.
Christian Estrosi denied this “pure invention”, but reality has proven him wrong. The mayor of Nice, candidate for his own succession, responded to National Rally member Philippe Vardon, who has accused him of lying on the subject of Islam.
In a video circulating on social networks, Vardon questions Estrosi: “You declared: ‘I am fighting the Islamist’s fifth column’. So why do you give, in the Var, a 3000m2 plot to build a large mosque which will be in the hands of the UOIF?”
With a big smile, Estrosi responds indirectly by addressing journalists present: “It is a pure invention on the part of Mr. Vardon. The 3000m2 plot? It’s a pure invention.”
And when asked to confirm his denial, Estrosi repeats: “Absolutely not!” Vardon seems almost incredulous in the face of his opponent’s reaction, and all the participants, candidates and journalists present remain as discreet as possible.
The facts however, leaves no room for doubt: Philippe Vardon is telling the truth, while Christian Estrosi is obviously lying.
The 3000m2 plot in the Var is not, and far from it, “pure invention”. In April 2016, Christian Estrosi announced, together with the “local Muslim authorities”, a project to create a new place of worship in the west of the city. The local press then explained: “The municipality offered one of its 3,000 square meters of land” located in the Var.
