French globalist candidate whines about Anglo-American ties

Britain has now become a “vassal” to the US, a French presidential candidate has complained.

The globalist Macron also branded Donald Trump’s first week in power “worrying” in the wake of deepening Anglo-American ties likened to the relationship between former leaders Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher.

“Britain lived in an equilibrium with Europe,” the banker’s candidate told France Culture radio. “But now it is becoming a vassal state, meaning it is becoming the junior partner of the United States.”

He was joined in his condemnation of Trump by outgoing German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who told German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, that he was “appalled” about developments in the United States. He also voiced his concerns on the “rise of nationalism” around the world.

Steinmeier, favored to become the next German president in February, warned against nationalism in Europe and the US, saying it was a “serious and dangerous” threat.

On Friday, Anglo-American nationalism was on open display. Trump praised Brexit during May’s US visit, the first of a foreign head of state to the new administration: “I think Brexit’s going to be a wonderful thing for your country. I think when it irons out, you’re gonna have your own identity and you’re going to have the people that you want in your country and you’re going to be able to make free trade deals without having somebody watching you and what you’re doing.”

Trump and May have opened a new chapter in the historical “special relationship” between the Anglophone nations. The pair smiled next a returned bust of Winston Churchill in the American president’s office and were later seen walking hand-in-hand on their way to a joint press conference. Former president Obama had replaced the bust of Churchill with one of Martin Luther King in 2009, causing an upset in Britain.

May announced at a news conference that the Queen has invited Trump for a state visit to the UK and revealed that the president and first lady had accepted.

She said: ‘It is in our interests – those of Britain and America together – to stand strong together to defend our values, our interests and the very ideas in which we believe. This cannot mean a return to the failed policies of the past.

“The days of Britain and America intervening in sovereign countries in an attempt to remake the world in our own image are over. But nor can we afford to stand idly by when the threat is real and when it is in our own interests to intervene,” she added.

May decimated the two decades of “failed” liberal interventionist foreign policy, the so-called “Chicago doctrine” established by former British premier Tony Blair.

Earlier, she laid a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery in an emotional ceremony where at least 15 British forces personnel are buried alongside American comrades, standing somberly as the Last Post was played.
