The Conservative Christian site PJ Media reported that no fewer than 60 organizations branded “hate groups” or otherwise attacked by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) are considering legal action against the left-wing smear factory, in the wake of Taylor’s success.
A Christian legal nonprofit leader pointed out on Tuesday that the $3 million settlement and apology the SPLC gave to Maajid Nawaz and his Quiliam Foundation on Monday would encourage further legal action.
Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, told PJ Media: “We haven’t filed anything against the SPLC, but I think a number of organisations have been considering filing lawsuits against the SPLC, because they have been doing to a lot of organisations exactly what they did to Maajid Nawaz that’s part of the settlement.”
The SPLC has routinely mislabelled conservative and dissident organisations as “racist,” “misogynist,” “anti-Semitic,” “supremacist,” while falsely accused them of spreading “hatred” and “violence” because they had dared to express ideas that were not approved of by the left.
By mischaracterising conservative notions as “hatred,” the SPLC has been actively pursuing financial measures to cause distress to countless people and organisations. This alone could mean legal challenges costing it hundreds of millions of dollars.
Among the 60 organisations preparing to mount a civil action against the SPLC, are the Family Research Council (FRC), the Ruth Institute, and Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). Their supposed “hate crime” according to the SPLC was supporting marriage between men and women.
Taylor is the “firebell in the night, to adapt Jefferson’s famous phrase, that signals the approaching crisis of the American Union”, says Peter Brimelow, author of Alien Nation.
Brimelow added that “unlike the Civil War, however, this is a crisis entirely created by recent public policy, and of which our elites, resolutely uninformed by Taylor’s brilliant work, remain invincibly unaware”.
