According to the British version of the newspaper Metro, Habte Araya has certainly become the poster boy for detractors of mass immigration. On Monday, July 29, he was accused of shoving a 78-year-old woman, as well as a mother and her eight-year-old son, under a train, in Frankfurt-am-Main, resulting in the death of the boy.
The 40-year-old suspect from Eritrea is reported to have appeared in a Swiss advertising brochure promoting successful integration, as the British version of Metro newspaper has found.
In the brochure, produced in 2017 for the Swiss Workers Relief agency, this Swiss resident explained that he has loved “almost everything about Switzerland” since his arrival. Araya worked as a building fitter for the Swiss Workers Relief Agency.
His colleagues described him as “reserved and a bit shy”.
“When I first arrived, communication was difficult because of language. But that’s no longer the case,” he said. Furthermore, he said: “I like the fact that everyone is helped here, whether they are rich or poor. I want a better life and easier than ever for my children.”
Araya faces one charge of murder as well as two charges of attempted murder.
Four days before the horrific event, the Eritrean migrant had locked up his wife and three children in their apartment in Switzerland, in Wädenswil, according to the Swiss daily L’Essentiel. He also threatened a neighbour with a knife.
Police have been unable to find Araya’s motive.
