The identification was done by using a power of calculus similar to that used in the discovery the Higg’s boson. It was particularly difficult to detect the particle, taking almost half a century and a multi-billion dollar particle accelerator to do so.
Described on the ArXiv website, the molecules can now undergo testing to see if they can be used to make drugs, researchers said.
They were selected from 9 000 molecules analysed in a project led by the Sybilla Biotech company and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics.
ArXiv is an open-access repository of electronic preprints (known as e-prints) approved for posting after moderation, but not full peer review. It consists of scientific papers in the fields of mathematics, physics, astronomy, electrical engineering, computer science, quantitative biology, statistics, mathematical finance and economics, which can be accessed online.
In many fields of mathematics and physics, almost all scientific papers are self-archived on the arXiv repository.
