Leftists in Leipzig forced to report refugee assaults

An “anti-racist, anti-sexist” club in the former East-German city of Leipzig, with an open-door refugee policy, has had to adjust to reality.

The Conne Island Club issued a statement about sexual violence committed by refugees, breaking with strict leftist etiquette that requires unwavering and ebullient optimism about the cultural mores of non-Germans.

The walls of the establishment, both inside and out, attest to their fervent ideological bent, plastered with “Antifascist” graffiti and tacky “Refugees Welcome” stickers. But on October 7, the club issued a near-farcical 1 200-worded contortion on its website entitled “One step forward, two steps back”.

Germany’s “Welcome Culture”, where throngs of well-meaning but naive German volunteers at the Munich train station expressed their joy at the influx, was never going to outlast the reality of a lumpenproletariat from the many impoverished corners of the earth, arriving in a modern state.

So when the club announced “integration” projects like skateboarding workshops and German courses, and charging refugees a paltry entry fee of 50 euro-cents, the new arrivals presented themselves soon enough, oblivious to the prevaling PC vibes bouncing off the scruffy walls. Instead, the new guests felt fully “integrated” right away and celebrated their easy conquests with verve.

As Conne Island then discovered, “sexist advances and physical attacks have occurred more frequently … in Conne Island and other clubs – with the consequence that female guests have stayed away.”

Having spent the 25 years of its existence fighting for “principles”, which included zero tolerance for “sexist attacks … or anti-Semitic, racist, or any other type of discriminatory behavior”, the refugees, sadly were having none of the Conne Antifa’s staked claim on the moral high ground.

The “groups of roving men” had made unwanted sexual advances and sexist comments, and Conne Island’s management lamented “the strongly authoritarian and patriarchal socialization in some of the refugees’ countries of origin and the freedom of Western (party-)culture having created an explosive mix at our place”. Indeed. The only surprising thing is that it should have surprised anyone at all.

And while the Antifa were spending long and fruitful hours in finding the most creative ways to loathe the anti-immigrant PEGIDA marches of Saxony, “incidents” started to accumulate, exacerbated by language barriers and “fears of unjustified accusations of racism” among security personnel.

These “incidents” occasionally led to the police being summoned, in itself a sacrilegious admission as leftists pride themselves on their order-defying skills. Calls to the police certainly hint at more than “incidents” deflowering the pious PC sect. Most recently, the Saxony police reported that five Conne Island guests had on October 9 accused two young men, a Libyan and a Moroccan, of stealing their rucksacks and cell phones while Germans had been so nice to them.

The club concluded that dark-skinned thieves “made clear how difficult it is to show aggressive solidarity with refugees, fight the right-wing climates and at the same time recognize that carrying a ‘Refugees Welcome’ bag doesn’t automatically solve all problems and conflicts”.

Pointing out criminal behaviour was “difficult for us”, the club management declared, because “we didn’t want to take the same racist line as the AfD and the CDU/CSU”. By doing so the leftists would have joined the ranks of their sworn enemies. So the comical letter on their website was supposed to indicate the third way, the way leftists pretend that a “difficult” decision to involve law enforcement somehow sets them apart from “racists”.

Alternative for Germany, the new rising star on the political horizon, and Angela Merkel’s more conservative Christian Democratic Union coalition partners has been doing splendidly by facing reality as voters flock to anti-immigration parties.

The confused and conned club is not alone in their struggle to condemn and defend the immigrant opportunists in equal measure. In January, the White Rabbit Club in Freiburg, southern Germany, posted a similar message on its Facebook page, but condemned the local media for exploiting the situation and “playing to the voyeurism … of the right-wing populists without regard for the victims of sexual violence”. It appears that in Freiburg, perpetrators are luckier because they get off scot-free.

Plenty of nightclubs in Leipzig now turn away foreigners, even if they aren’t refugees. Syrians, Moroccans, or Tunisians openly sell drugs in the main train station while the police stand idly by.

But while reality has cured some of the Left’s delusions about “friendly” refugees, those who have the means not to deal with such unpleasantries argue that if all the asylum seekers receive blanket approval and are given a chance of being allowed to stay, they’ll somehow become nicer. Asylum seekers facing deportation have every reason to resort to crime, they say.

Meanwhile a German court has begun the trial of a 16-year-old Moroccan-born female for an alleged terror attack. Prosecutors accuse her of stabbing a police officer and of links with the Islamic State (ISIS).

The trial has afforded German authorities yet another chance of showing how perfectly understanding they are towards certain transgressions. The court has decided to exclude the media from the trial, to protect the defendant from “continued exposure and the related stigma”.
