Erdogan claims Mosul and Aleppo are Turkish
Published: October 23, 2016, 9:55 pm
The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that the cities of Mosul and Aleppo belonged to the Turkish people. In a speech recorded on video by Ruptly, he also compared the eviction of Syrians and Iraqis from their homes by Islamic State fighters to the manner in which Turks were expelled from the same cities.
Erdogan does not shy away from stirring up controversy. Last week he said to Haider Al-‘Abadi, the Iraqi prime minister, that he “should know his place” and that they were not equals.
