The ideological purge in the US has begun

Donald Trump, whose peculiar style is conducive to demonization by his opponents, has been held solely responsible for the invasion of Capitol Hill by an excited crowd. So-called progressives calling for more social justice, jumped on this call by Trump − to demonstrate before but not to invade the seat of American democracy − to advance their project with the aid of the mass media.

It all started with an awkwardly provocative speech by Trump, held in Washington on January 6, 2021, in which he urged his supporters to “walk down Pennsylvania Avenue” and “march to Capitol Hill” to denounce “an illegitimate president”.

And with unbearably selective indignation, the media-political class has simply ignored the five demonstrators shot in cold blood by the Capitol police, including a former US military veteran, Ashli Babbitt. The dead on Capitol Hill are nothing but the “deplorable” culprits.

The invasion of the Capitol is an expression of the ochlocracy that threatens when democracy is flouted, trampled on, manipulated by a media-political caste anxious to retain its power.

Any violent insurrection is condemnable in that it is contrary to the law, to order and to the maintenance of social peace. But our modern democracies are often born of insurrection, such as the war of independence in the United States or the storming of the Bastille. Rather than trying to understand the deep reasons that pushed American citizens to invade their Capitol, the media preferred to accuse, denigrate and silence Donald Trump by all means.

While debate is at the heart of democratic life, US Democrats and progressives in general, are only satisfied when its declared enemies are prevented from expressing themselves. And to achieve this, they use means paradoxically contrary to the democratic ideal: to silence them by all means, even if it means replacing the judiciary.

From Michèle Obama to Hillary Clinton and countless other celebrities, calls to silence Donald Trump by depriving him of means of expression on social networks have been made. These calls have been answered: Platforms have thus replaced justice by proceeding with the permanent or temporary suspension of Donald Trump’s accounts: Facebook, Google, Snapchat , Instagram, Youtube, Spotify, Reddit, Twitch, TikTok.

These platforms are supposed to allow the free expression of billions of individuals in compliance with the law. But it is not up to them to enforce it, much less preventively and without the possibility of a transparent and legally supervised appeal. This denial of justice coupled with a democratic denial has just silenced the current president of the world’s leading power.

These social networks have become so powerful and so essential for the dissemination of information and democratic expression that they should come under public control. But quite the reverse is happening. The immeasurable power of these large private companies, which do not hide their progressive militancy, takes precedence over democratic life. And when an alternative to their omnipotence appears, it is immediately seen as a threat and neutralized, the ideological adversary being identified as an enemy of their cause.

When Trump opens an account on the social network Parler, users rush to join to the point of it being temporarily unavailable. However, a few hours later, the giant Google withdraws it without notice from its download platform, arguing an absence of moderation on this network which is deemed too right-wing for progressive Google.

The ideological purge has begun. Twitter even went so far as to delete hundreds of Donald Trump support accounts in a matter of hours. In Europe, voices on the right and on the left have been raised against this disproportionate interference in democratic life.

Meanwhile Gab, a more conservative-friendly alternative social media platform to Twitter, on Saturday said it has been gaining 10 000 users per hour. Bitchute has seen a similar development.

The term “Big Brother” from Orwell’s dystopian 1984 has become a cliché of modern times. It is only now that the real technological capabilities have come into being to make a 1984-type society possible, a society in which megacorporations assume total control over individuals, their personal data, analysing their beliefs and behavioral traits in order to control them, often sending them into a kind of cyberprison without trial.

In future, Trump’s departure from the presidency might just be seen as the last hour of American democracy, with the New Totalitarianism of Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Twitter, as well as their beltway puppets, in the ascendant.

    The inflation hoax

Yes, prices are rising, but not for the reasons the Federal Reserve says. When I say inflation is a hoax, I mean the purported cause is a hoax. The Fed is fighting a consumer inflation, a “demand-pull” inflation. But what we are experiencing is a supply-side inflation caused by the Covid lockdowns and economic sanctions that closed businesses, disrupted supply chains, and broke business relationships while reducing energy supplies to the UK and European countries, thus forcing up costs in a globalized economy.
