The LGBTQ adaptation of an American hero will be released on November 9 in the United States. It illustrates the story of Superman’s son, Jon Kent, portrayed as a “bisexual” superhero. In a press release, DC Comics tried to spin the openly gay character as “bisexual” to soften the blow.

The author of the comic, Tom Taylor, explained that for him, “the symbol of Superman has always been hope, truth and justice”. And today more and more readers “can identify with the most powerful superhero in comics”.

Taylor was quoted in a press release illustrated by a drawing showing the hero Jon Kent kissing another male character on the mouth. In a first issue published last August, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane was already getting too friendly with journalist Jay Nakamura. In the next issue of the saga, the two men will start a romantic relationship. According to information relayed by France24, this new Superman series will focus more on themes such as the alleged climate crisis, social injustices and immigration.

Former DC Comics artist Ethan Van Sciver, had warned about this development earlier: “Clark Kent, I guess, is going to disappear and they are going to replace him with Jonathan Kent, and then they are going to announce that Jonathan Kent is gay. So Superman is indeed gay, everyone. He’s gay,” reported Cosmic Book.

It is evident from the new comic that “all experienced editorial talent [was] fired,” just as Van Sciver had pointed out on Twitter.

After 30 years, DC Comics also changed Batman’s sidekick Robin into an LGBTQ gay bi-sexual character.
