French film ‘Athena’ inspires Linz riot

The film Athena is about Muslim migrants who turn a French suburb (banlieue) into a fortress from which they fight the police. They believe they have a score to settle with the French state because one of their relatives was shot dead by the police.

According to media reports, the approximately 200 (ex) asylum seekers identified with the Netflix film that was released in September and agreed to reenact it on TikTok. Wild street battles followed in the wake of their resolve.

According to the police report, the Syrians and Afghans started the riot around 9 pm by throwing firecrackers at people at Taubenmarkt. When the police tried to stop the activity, as expected, they fought back.

The Linz police report stated: “Around 200 people, some of them ruthlessly, lit firecrackers and threw them uncontrollably into the crowds. The situation on site was tense, sometimes aggressive towards the police forces. Uninvolved passers-by have already avoided the Taubenmarkt area. Firecrackers continued to be thrown into the crowds, regardless of the presence of the police force.”

The police then began to clear the Taubenmarkt: “During the clearing, the police forces continued to be attacked with firecrackers, and in addition, there were still isolated cases of glass bottles being thrown at them. The mood became more and more aggressive, so that other forces had to reinforce the lockdown.”

Police, however, noted that the migrants were unperturbed: “But since the rioters showed no change in behavior, the police had to use more aggressive operational tactics to resolve the situation. Through the offensive tactics used, the rioters could be pushed far to the south.”

The Halloween party of the “new Austrians” was clearly more like a declaration of war against the state.

The report continued: “However, the rioters formed up again around 30 meters in front of the law enforcement ring and immediately started throwing massive firecrackers, stones and glass bottles.”

However, the Linz police were not the only target of the migrants, apparently they also wanted to damage the infrastructure significantly. They are said to have attacked the overhead lines of the tram with firecrackers. The power lines were then switched off: “Shortly after 11 pm, the overhead lines of the tram in the area of ​​Landstrasse were switched off by the Linz Linien, as they could be damaged by the firecrackers used in such a way that they could have fallen to the ground, which would have meant an immediate danger to life.”

Police powerless against migrants

The Linz police were unable to get the approximately 200 migrants – who are referred to in media reports as “young people” – under control for two hours, despite calling in further support and with a total of 170 trained and equipped woke officers deployed. Apparently in desperation, the “party society” was told via loudspeaker at 11:10 pm that they had to leave the street.

The “new Austrians” were obviously not daunted by the presence of the woke police. It took about an hour and a half for the police to surround the rioters.

The encirclement “training” the police had done on peaceful demonstrators against the Corona dictatorship was obviously not sufficient preparation for aggressive foreigners who actually reject the state and have declared war on it according to the Netflix recipe.

Six hours of ‘partying’ with police

After the encirclement, the police found that the immigrant “party society” had brought a lot of stuff for their war game training against the police.

“During the identity checks, among other things, large quantities of pyrotechnics were seized.” According to the report, it took no less than six hours for the operation to be completed. Police officers were also injured in the operation against the 200 migrants: “Two of the approximately 170 officers deployed were slightly injured.”

Apparently, the police also failed to determine the identity of around 70 people – the police report provided the factual confirmation: “All 130 people – including 9 arrested – are on suspicion of serious community violence and reported for disorder.”

In Germany, too, there were riots in connection with Halloween celebrations. Around 150 young people, some in costume, gathered in several districts of Hamburg and attacked the police with eggs, bottles, stones and firecrackers.

There were also riots in Berlin. According to the police, around 50 people ignited pyrotechnics at the Gesundbrunnen station. They also threw a firecracker at a person in a wheelchair. It exploded under the wheelchair, but the victim was unharmed. The police were able to temporarily arrest 47 attackers. The officials initiated investigations into serious breaches of the peace.
