The Daily Beast revealed the findings of a “Study Links Fluoridated Water During Pregnancy to Lower IQs”.
An influential medical journal JAMA Pediatrics, has published an alarming study that links fluoride consumption during pregnancy with lower childhood IQs.
The research is so controversial that the editor included a note saying the decision to publish it was not easy. “It is the only editor’s note I’ve ever written,” Dimitri Christakis, editor in chief of JAMA Pediatrics and a pediatrician, told The Daily Beast.
“There was concern on the journal’s editorial team about how this would play out in the public eye and what the public-health implications would be.”
Fluoride has been said to dramatically reduce tooth decay. For that reason some 75 percent of Americans drink fluoridated tap water, something which the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had declared one of the 10 greatest public-health achievements of the twentieth century .
Sharing articles about the dangers of fluoride, has resulted in anti-fluoride activists being labelled as “conspiracy theorists” and censored by Google as a result, even well before the latest massive purge of conservatives from the platform.
Research from the Fluoride Action Network was dismissed as the work of “quacks” despite a large compendium of studies showing links between fluoride and lower IQs. But it appears as though bright smiles were deemed more important than cognitive advantage.
