Appeal of 500 scientists: ‘There is no climate emergency’

More than 500 scientists have contradicted the thesis of man-made climate change in a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

“The climate models on which the international policy approaches currently build, are inappropriate,” it says in the letter, which bears, inter alia, the signature of former Hamburg Environmental Senator Fritz Vahrenholt (SPD).

The title of the letter is: “There is no climate emergency”.

It was “cruel and unwise to waste trillions on the results of such childish models” the letter noted. Current climate policy erodes the economic system and endangers human lives in countries that are denied access to affordable electrical energy. The signatories expressed the request to the United Nations “to pursue a climate policy based on serious science”.

The scientists urged the UN to also hear counter-opinions in the climate debate and encourage a “constructive meeting at the highest level between world-class scientists on both sides of the climate debate”.

The letter closes with six theses on climate change:

    • Global warming is caused by natural and human factors.
    • Global warming is much slower than predicted.
    • The climate policy relies on inadequate models.
    • CO2 is the food for plants, the basis of all life on earth.
    • Global warming has not led to an increase in natural disasters.
    • Climate policy must respect scientific and economic realities.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed on Monday in New York before the United Nations that there was no doubt that the global warming was man-made. She sees industrialised countries as responsible for changing the global economy in a climate-friendly way.

Recently, the Federal Government  presented its “Climate Protection Program 2030”, which should cost 54 billion euros, according to data from Federal Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD).

In a Fox News segment, a guest Michael Knowles meanwhile called climate activist Greta Thunberg a “mentally ill Swedish child”.  Knowles said: “If it were about science it would be led by scientists rather than by politicians and a mentally ill Swedish child who is being exploited by her parents and by the international left.”

A Fox News spokesperson later said: “The comment made by Michael Knowles who was a guest on The Story tonight was disgraceful. We apologize to Greta Thunberg and to our viewers.”

Also on Monday, Laura Ingraham, a Fox News presenter, compared Thunberg and other young climate activists to the characters in Stephen King’s horror story Children of the Corn.

While Fox News was apologizing for having a guest on who said that Thunberg was mentally ill and being exploited by the media and the United Nations to emotionally charge their political agenda, Sky News Australia allowed a network host to state this frankly, in a 5-minute-long segment.

Sky News host Chris Kenny described Thunberg’s speech as “disturbing” that the UN allowed “hysterical teenager” to speak at its Climate Change Summit in New York.

According to Malena Ernman (48), the mother of Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish climate activist can see CO2 with the naked eye. Ernman recounted this fantasy in detail in her book ‘Scenes from the heart. Our life for the climate’, which she wrote with her family.

Thunberg was diagnosed as a child with obsessive-compulsive disorder and Asperger’s syndrome, just like her younger sister Beata.

In addition, she has a “gift” according to her mother. “Greta is able to see what other people cannot see,” writes Malena Ernman in the book. “She can see carbon dioxide with the naked eye. She sees how it flows out of chimneys and changes the atmosphere in a landfill.”

She was allegedly eight years old when she first saw photos and images about the plastics in the oceans on television and at school and heard that global warming was caused by human activity.

“Greta suddenly stopped eating one day after another,” her mother writes. “Because of an eating disorder, we had to count the number of gnocchis in her plate to see if she did get enough. And to eat a third of a banana, it took them an hour.” Greta stopped going to school, cried constantly and only spoke to her parents, sister and one teacher. At the age of eleven, she slipped into depression.

She was meanwhile able to convince her parents to lower the heating and to stop eating meat.
