After German chancellor Angela Merkel declared open borders to the EU, human traffickers have enjoyed a prosperous time with “public slave markets” and paying migrants for the journey to cross the Mediterranean Sea, to seek asylum in Europe, but it may soon come to an end if Identitarians have their way.
Migrants from Africa are being sold at modern-day public slave markets in Libya, according to the UN’s migration agency, International Organisation for Migration, or IOM.
An anti-immigration youth group wants to physically block boats full of migrants coming from North Africa to put an end to these vile practices where people smugglers take non-paying travellers to a slave market.
“Sub-Saharan migrants were being sold and bought by Libyans, with the support of Ghanaians and Nigerians who work for them,” IOM Niger staff reported, describing how Africans were exploiting other Africans. Their captors forced them to phone home so their families could hear how they were being tortured on the phone in order for the families to send more money.
More than 1 600 refugees have already died crossing the sea in 2017, according to the United Nations, but more importantly, more than 71 000 migrants have made into Europe in the past six months by boat, angering Identitarian activists who are now trying to stop boats by means of crowd funding.
“It’s a mission to rescue Europe by stopping illegal immigration. We want to get our crew, equip a boat and set sail to chase down these enemies of Europe,” said one member of Génération Identitaire — the French youth movement which emerged in 2002 as part of the Nouvelle Droite — in a video posted on the group’s Facebook page. The video, posted on May 14, has had over a quarter of a million views.
The group says Europe is “under attack” and Europeans are set to become a minority in their own countries. They vowed to “defend” their countries.
The Observer reported, that the group has raised almost $100,000 in less than three weeks by means of an anonymous crowd funding drive. The group says it plans to pay for vessels, travel costs and film equipment. Italian Identitarians say they have already been offered ships and support from the owners of boating licenses.
“Migrants who go to Libya while trying to get to Europe, have no idea of the torture archipelago that awaits them just over the border,” said IOM spokesman Leonard Doyle told The Independent. “There they become commodities to be bought, sold and discarded when they have no more value.”
He added:”Tragically the most credible messengers are migrants returning home with IOM help. Too often they are broken, brutalised and have been abused, often sexually. Their voices carry more weight than anyone else’s.”
