Being a patriot is becoming a sin to leftists worldwide

According to thefreedictionary.com, a patriot is “a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests”. The derision of patriotism is going mainstream in the US, Europe and Australia, in an effort to say goodbye to borders.

In the Western world, such a dictionary definition will eventually fuel leftist government policies out to destroy sovereign nations.

Leftists are increasingly being offended by patriotism in European countries. Even in America, which is considered one of the most patriotic nations, leftists are melting down over sports fans wearing red, white and blue clothing.

Students the Des Moines North High School basketball team in Iowa, many of whose players are from refugee families, were offended when fans of Valley High School’s basketball team wore red, white and blue last week, The College Fix reported.

“This is an example of BLATANT racism,” said one parent Ty Leggett. “As a parent, I’d be mortified that my son or daughter thought this way, acted in this fashion and refrained from taking a stand against this 21st century inexcusable behavior!”

Erin Ness Carter, a mother living in the Iowan district, was furious that “the supporters of one team from a primarily white part of town painted themselves as the ‘team of the USA’ it strongly implies that the other team, the less white team, is less American.”

DeNasja Spencer, told news outlet KCCI: “A lot of people were very upset about it. Even if that was their theme for the game, I feel like they should have switched that because everyone knows North is a more diverse school.”

The outrage has prompted the school to draft a letter of apology: “We are deeply sorry if we have offended anyone in any way. We have traditionally dressed in such a fashion for great games.” They said their intent was in no way to offend or demean, but only done to support their team by wearing red, white and blue. The patriotic Valley High School Tigers defeated the Des Moines North Polar Bears in the basketball game.

Valley High student Mallorie Paige Sander, commented: “The intentions to offend anyone by wearing USA themed clothing was no where in the thoughts of our student body, why would it be? We all live in America.”

In Europe, two Swedish priests said last week that the Swedish Church has become too “synonymous with being Swedish” on the eve of the the country’s national day. They added that “nationalism and patriotism must be swept away and replaced with internationalism and solidarity”.

Earlier, the lesbian Bishop of Stockholm Eva Brunne had called for the removal of crosses in a church in her diocese, to allow Muslims to pray there. Bishop Brunne defended the removal by arguing that it would make people of other faiths feel more welcome, Breitbart reported.

Calling the Christian faith “radical”, in an editorial for left wing Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter, Peter Englund and Helena Myrstener from Malmö – a migrant centre – believe Swedish people should stop celebrating their “National Day”. They derided Swedish nationalism and patriotism as “poison”.

“Patriotism has its roots in the patriarchal thinking that celebrates traditional masculinity as strength, competition, inequality, and reduces men to soldiers, and women to mothers. It goes without saying that this does not create good conditions for a world without borders.”

According to the pair “nothing good has come out of nationalism or patriotism” and the day has been “exploited by right wing populist forces”. In Sweden the day is celebrated with tradition in a sea of yellow and blue, the country’s national colours.

Australian leftists were similarly triggered by patriotic rhetoric in Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull’s recent statement that he wants the government to tighten citizenship and visa requirements.

“There is no more important title in our democracy than ‘Australian Citizen’. And we should make no apology for asking those who seek to join our Australian family to join us as Australian patriots – committed to the values that define us, committed to the values that unite us. Our success as a multicultural society is built on strong foundations which include the confidence of the Australian people that their government, and it alone, determines who comes to Australia.”

A panel from The Drum, an influential marketing and advertising news outlet for Australia, ripped into Turnbull for using the “p” word: “I resent the word ‘patriot’, its use and application to immigrants. It feels Trumpesque, someone who’s either a zealot/extremist.”

In 2015, a video surfaced of German chancellor Angela Merkel grabbing the German flag out of the hands of a parliament member. The camera gets a shot of the look on her face: Pure disgust.
