According to the report, one person was left lying on the ground with a stab wound, while the group of perpetrators had fled.
The police’s first investigation revealed that a 22-year-old from Homburg – the victim – together several male as well as female friends had taken the train from Homburg to Saarbrücken.
On the train, a verbal argument ensued with three Syrian migrants bewteen the ages of 17, 19 and 20 years. The argument on the train has been limited to verbal insults. After leaving the train station, the two groups took different directions. The Homburger and his friends walked down the Bahnhofstraße towards the Christmas stalls at St Johanner Markt.
In the pedestrian zone, the Syrian group ambushed the group of Germans between the Christmas Market stalls. The migrants threatened the group verbally, insulted them, and attacked the 22-year-old Homburger with drawn weapons.
According to witnesses, the perpetrators were armed with a club, a sickle-knife, a throwing knife and a chain whip. The German received a stab wound in the shoulder and at the temple, and had to be admitted to hospital.
The perpetrators only stopped attacking their victim when more eye witnesses arrived, calling loudly for the police. They eventually ran away in different directions.
Three hours after the knife attack, the migrants were “temporarily” arrested on the train to Homburg in St. Ingbert. According to Saarbrücker Zeitung, “after the interrogations they [the Syrians] were let go again. According to the police headquarters, there were ‘no reasons for arrest'”.
It appears that all three of them were under the influence of narcotics. It is unclear whether this was already the case at the time of the deed.
Police are looking for witnesses who can provide information about the deed, or about the prior argument on the train.
