It appears that female supervisors from Ruthsgården, a migrant reception centre in Oravais, were suspected of having sex with underaged asylum seekers, according to local newspaper Vasabladet.
The newspaper revealed that it had seen a reconsideration request from one of the former staff members who had been fired as a result of austerity measures. Both the director and deputy director knew of the transgressions but did nothing.
“This is something that cannot be swept under the rug. Should there even be the slightest suspicion of sexual relations or irregularities, they are always investigated”, the request, cited by the daily, noted.
Being in a position of power, a supervisor is not supposed to indulge in sexual relations. Despite supicions, the bosses were allowed to keep their jobs while other employees were fired.
The police in Ostrobothnia have however not yet received any report regarding the transgressions involving minors. They say an investigation into the suspected sexual exploitation of children would be triggered immediately in the case of a complaint.
Oravais is a majority Swedish-speaking town of over 20 00 inhabitants, and some 10 percent of its inhabitants are asylum seekers.
