It seems as if the Dalai Lama is ideologically close to the National Rally: He appeared very comfortable after his most recent shattering statements about immigration.
The Buddhist spiritual leader, who has been living as a refugee in India since fleeing Tibet in 1959, once again warned Europe that the continent could become “Muslim or African” if migrants arriving on the continent are not returned to their country of origin.
He believes that a only “limited number” of them must be allowed to stay.
During the BBC interview, the Dalai Lama said that needy migrants should be trained before returning home. “The European countries should welcome these refugees and provide them with education and training, the goal being that they return to their countries with certain skills,” said the 83-year-old religious leader.
Asked about those who would like to stay in Europe, he added: “A limited number is fine. Otherwise, all of Europe will become Muslim or African one day, it’s impossible.”
The journalist of the British channel challenged the Dalai Lama on his refugee status, but the BBC guest repeated: “Europe is for Europeans.” He continued: “They themselves are better off on their own territory.”
This is not the first time that the Buddhist spiritual leader, highly respected and popular in the Western world, apeared as an iconoclast, recalled the Daily Mail. Last year, in Malmö in Sweden, and in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, he stated at two different conferences: “Europe belongs to the Europeans.”
The international figure stated the obvious this week. “Every country has its own culture, its own language, its own way of life, and it’s better for everyone to live in their own country. This is my opinion,” said the Dalai Lama on the BBC.
Some 4,4 percent of the population of the European Union (512 million) are not citizens of the continent and 2,4 million migrants entered the EU in 2017.
The Dalai Lama is definitely not politically correct. In 2015, he said about his succession: “If it is a woman, she will have to be more attractive.”
