Ahead of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan, Angela Merkel was once again seen clutching her arms in a failed attempt to prevent herself shaking during an official ceremony.
The disturbing images have circumnavigated the world and caused many speculations.
This is the second time in ten days that the German Chancellor has suffered a crisis in front of the cameras. This time, she tried to cross her arms to control it, but nothing worked. The tremors lasted about two minutes, according to a current press photographer. They finally stopped when Angela Merkel was able to resume her march.
Ten days earlier, the former leader of the Christian Democratic party CDU had already been the victim of uncontrollable shaking, even more impressive, during another official ceremony, in Berlin, with the new Ukrainian President, Vladimir Zelensky.
This first incident was attributed by the Chancery to dehydration, as the temperature had exceeded regular highs in the German capital. This explanation did not convince doctors from Germany cited by the media. In addition, the second episode occurred early in the morning, indoors and when the temperature was only… 19° C.
“I have nothing particular to report, but I’m fine,” Merkel responded when questioned by reporters, and moreover failed to answer if she had consulted a doctor. German media has been reporting that her staff is claiming that the second attack was largely “psychosomatic”.
Not convinced by the official explanations of Merkel’s entourage, the boss of the German Greens preferred to accuse global warming before eventually apologising for his ridiculous statement.
Bild, Germany’s biggest tabloid, reported that foreign intelligence services were trying to access Merkel’s health records, believed to be held at a secure military facility.
“One leading western intelligence service is certain: that the health problem of the German chancellor ‘is a neurological problem’,” the tabloid noted without giving further details.
Nico Fried, a commentator for the Suddeutsche Zeitung said the Chancellor should tell the public if her health is failing.
