UK respiratory specialist: ‘We are heading into the abyss’
A British respiratory specialist in the UK's National Health Service (NHS), confirmed that the UK has missed the window of opportunity to stem the spread of Covid-19.
Dr Jessica Potter noted in the New York Times that hospitals across the UK “are overwhelmed” and “on the brink of collapse”.
Britain has fewer intensive-care beds than most other European countries. Occupancy rates are high, and there is already a daily struggle to discharge enough people to make space for new patients.
And even when beds become available, there are no nurses to staff it. Potter concluded that “right now, it feels like we’re heading into the abyss”.
A secret government document was leaked earlier this week warning that 80 percent of Britons could be infected and the pandemic will last until Spring 2021.
The Bank of England has made a statement acknowledging that it would start printing money in the face of the economic crash.
