Shocking video: BLM protester shoots elderly white driver

On Tuesday, a BLM protester shot an elderly white driver with a handgun. Initial system media reports referred to the shooting of the driver as "possible" gun fire in Provo, Utah.

Published: July 1, 2020, 10:40 am

The alarming video shows a group of Black Lives Matter rioters disrupting traffic in the state’s third largest city. When an elderly white man tries to drive out of harm’s way, he is blocked by the violent mob and shot twice by a masked man.

Local television station KSL-TV as well as Mormon Deseret News, caught the gunman on camera.

Police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the victim, a man in his 60s, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound and was being treated at the Utah Valley Hospital.

The Provo Police Department released statement in the wake of the shooting: “Provo City Police were made aware of a planned Police Rally and a Counter protest scheduled for last night. Both events coincided without incident until 8:38 pm when a call was received regarding possible gun shots and a hit and run. Shortly thereafter, we received another call regarding a shooting victim at Utah Valley Hospital.

“Numerous citizens and protestors provided video footage. A white SUV was driving south on University Avenue before pulling into the right turn lane in an attempt to turn onto Center Street. Several protestors began crowding around the vehicle. A male protestor ran to the SUV on the passenger side, pointed a handgun at driver and shot one round through the window.

“The driver, who was struck by the bullet, hit the gas trying to leave the situation. The same protestor ran after the vehicle and shot a second round that went through the rear passenger window. The video then shows that the protestor conceals the firearm and continues to protest. This same protestor later approached another vehicle at 500 North and University Avenue striking and breaking the window with the handgun.”

The police said they were grateful for the photos and videos provided to them and were following up on all leads.

But the shooter was not the only armed protester. Police also confirmed on Tuesday they were still looking for a second gunman who pointed his weapon at the same driver but did not fire.

One rioter, who can be seen on video throwing herself in front of the man’s SUV as he was fleeing with for his life with a gunshot wound, claimed she was intentionally struck. But videos shared on social media showed how the BLM rioters attacked multiple drivers throughout the day:

Despite the shooting, protesters continued to attack vehicles trying to drive through the line of protesters, prompting some to jump onto the vehicles and pound car windows. Later, they marched to the Provo Police Department but were met with officers in riot gear after which they started to disperse.

The gunman, Black Lives Matter activist Jesse Taggart, 33, has meanwhile been arrested for attempted murder. To justify his heinous act, he tried to demonize his victim as a “natzi” and “white supremacist” on Facebook before his arrest.

“A natzi, white supremacist, or angry provo driver was allegedly shot during the Provo protests after driving through multiple people and running over one. Along with 5 other cars, provo Utah I’m sickened to see your response to the protests,” Taggart complained on Tuesday on Facebook.
