The legitimacy of the US electoral system has suffered a huge blow

The climate around the outcome of the US presidential election continues to deteriorate. Accusations of fraud by the Trump clan continue, due to the many irregularities in voting and counting.

These voting irregularities are not limited to: inexplicably halting the counts in five states late on election night; the continuing, and mysterious “finding” of huge tranches of ballots overwhelmingly—and in some cases exclusively—for Biden; computer “glitches” that flipped red Republican votes in favor of blue Democrat votes; people showing up to vote in person only to be told that they had already voted when they had never request an absentee ballot; Democratic-controlled states limiting access to Republican observers even in defiance of explicit court orders; etc.

And while such very serious questions are being left unanswered, a member of Joe Biden’s campaign team raised the tone on Friday, November 6. Andrew Bates – also spokesman for the Democratic candidate – reacted to accusations of fraud by the Trump clan by saying that if Donald Trump refused to concede defeat, there would be no difficulty to “expel” the “intruders” from the White House: “The Americans will decide the outcome of this election. (…) The American authorities are perfectly capable of expelling the intruders from the White House.”

In addition to the many suspicions of fraud raised by the Republican camp for several days, the week was also punctuated by violence and intimidation. As of last Tuesday, major demonstrations broke out in Washington, in front of the White House. A few days before the election, the capital had completely barricaded itself, fearing major riots. Protests in Seattle and Portland were also violent. In the latter city, capital of Oregon where Joe Biden came quite far ahead, demonstrators marched armed with assault rifles, burning American flags.

Trump has already pointed out that Biden is being backed by “special interests” confirming that Biden’s donors were predominantly investment bankers, tech giants and media companies. While Biden was endorsed by 47 major US newspapers, Trump could only count on 7 smaller outlets. Also, Twitter has been actively limiting the president’s tweets about voting irregularities. His tweets were blocked from being liked and retweeted and were issued with warning labels, presented by Twitter as their “security efforts”.

It is therefore unsurprising that the media has declared Biden to be the winner.

“At the national level, our opponents’ major donors were Wall Street bankers and special interests,” Trump said, adding that: “Our donors were police officers, farmers, everyday citizens.” The Trump campaign’s contributions came predominantly from working- and middle-class Americans, from ordinary people such as drivers, construction workers, machinists, farmers, and plumbers.

Considering that 2020 was by far the most expensive federal election in the history of the United States,  Democrats moreover outspent Republicans by nearly two to one. In 2012 and 2016, the spending was still evenly balanced between the two parties, according to data compiled by OpenSecrects.org

President Donald Trump has meanwhile issued a statement on the election result of the 2020 elections called by the pro-Biden media.

“We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed. The simple fact is this election is far from over. Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor. In Pennsylvania, for example, our legal observers were not permitted meaningful access to watch the counting process. Legal votes decide who is president, not the news media.

“Beginning Monday, our campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated. The American People are entitled to an honest election: that means counting all legal ballots, and not counting any illegal ballots. This is the only way to ensure the public has full confidence in our election. It remains shocking that the Biden campaign refuses to agree with this basic principle and wants ballots counted even if they are fraudulent, manufactured, or cast by ineligible or deceased voters. Only a party engaged in wrongdoing would unlawfully keep observers out of the count room – and then fight in court to block their access.

“So what is Biden hiding? I will not rest until the American People have the honest vote count they deserve and that Democracy demands.”

The statement was issued while Trump was playing golf at his club in Virginia. Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani remarked on Saturday in Philadelphia in front of the press: “The media does not decide who is president, ” suggesting that it would be up to the courts.
