Trump will never be allowed to return to Twitter even if re-elected president

More than a month after the suspension of Donald Trump's Twitter account, immediately after the demonstration at the Capitol by his supporters, one of the leaders of the blue bird social network confirmed the absolutely final nature of this suspension.

At a time when the influence of Twitter, especially on the political scene, continues to grow, it almost amounts to a social death sentence ad vitam æternam. As a guest of the show Squawk Box, devoted to the economy and the business world, the financial director of Twitter, Ned Segal, returned to the ban on Donald Trump from the platform.

And the least that can be said is that the social network is not interested in a policy of appeasement vis-à-vis the former US president. Asked by a journalist about a possible return of Trump to the platform, on the occasion of a hypothetical candidacy in 2024, Ned Segal was particularly clear: “Our rules are designed to prevent anyone from inciting violence”, he told CNBC. “The way our policies work, when you’re removed from the platform, you’re removed from the platform,” Segal told CNBC. “Our policies don’t allow people to come back.”

Ned Segal’s statement is clear to say the least: Donald Trump will not be allowed to ever get back onto the platform, even if he is a candidate in 2024, or even re-elected to the White House.

The impeachment trial of Donald Trump opened in the US Senate. Already, at the beginning of last January, when the Republican president was suspended, many voices were raised against a unilateral decision, placing de facto a private company above the American presidential power.

Several international political figures, not pro-Trump, had expressed their concerns about the omnipotence of GAFAM and Twitter. Thus, Angela Merkel had herself considered “problematic” the suspension of Donald Trump’s accounts, recalling the fundamental nature of “freedom of expression”.

Twitter has however not removed any of the violent Antifa activists calling for murder and chaos from the the platform.
