Deutsche Welle reported that migrants attacked the police, who described the atmosphere as highly charged inside the facility.
The operation to recover the dead body lasted three hours and required 20 patrol cars and 50 police officers, while some 50 asylum-seekers were obstructing law enforcement efforts but no one was arrested on site.
Two investigations have been launched into the woman’s death, as well as the violence that accompanied the extraction of the body at the so-called “anchor centre”, the German acronym for “arrival, distribution, triage and repatriation”.
Germany has been witnessing an upsurge in crime after 2015. Research suggests that Germans are significantly more likely to become victims of a crime committed by an immigrant than vice versa. Last year, 102 000 victims of serious crimes were assaulted by migrants. This number has increased by seven percent since 2017.
The spike is more drastic when it comes to murder and manslaughter involving foreign perpetrators and German victims: 230 Germans were killed, which is twice as many as in 2017, Sputnik reported.
The refugee policy and “open borders” approach, in particular, have prompted criticism against Angela Merkel’s government.
On the night of Thursday 9 to Friday, May 10, a dozen migrants from an administrative center in Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande, near Rennes, in France rebelled against police officers who came to deport illegal inhabitants, reported regional daily Ouest-France.
While the police were entering the buildings of a CRA [Administrative Detention Center] where dozens of migrants are housed, to put one of them on a plane, about ten men in an irregular situation set fire to mattresses and linen.
Some of the rioters even climbed onto the roofs of the buildings to express their anger. The premises, with a capacity for 40 people, have since become unusable.
The police on duty managed to extinguish the fire, but reinforcements were needed to control rioters who did not want to get off the roof.
Three illegal immigrants were transferred to another center near Rouen and two others were released.
“There have never been so many riots in CRAs in France in recent months,” says a West-France observer who works for illegal immigrants. An investigation was opened to identify the perpetrators of the damage.
