Monday, on September 16, French regional daily Midi Libre reported that a user of public transport in Montpellier was sentenced after the verbal aggression of which he had been the author in late May against controllers.
“I have never met a person like that who has so much hate in their eyes. It provoked the controllers to to a point of being unhinged,” testified an employee of the transport company in the district court of the city.
The man also reportedly threatened an officer with stabbing him “in the back when Ramadan is over. You will not expect it … ” He ordered another controller to lower her “eyes, you are a woman … “.
“I’m going to kill you, you’re the dog of whites,” he told one of the employees.
The defendant also signed an administrative document at the police station with the words “God is great” in Arabic.
He is currently being sued for fuel thefts at gas stations. He was finally sentenced to “two years in detention, including six months of probation for two years, with the conditions required by the prosecutor’s office,” according to Midi Libre.
The prosecutor’s office required a “ban on appearing in the tramway, duty of care, obligation to compensate victims and warrant of committal” the newspaper noted. The perpetrator was also ordered to compensate his victims: each will receive 400 euros in damages and 150 euros in legal costs. The company in charge of public transport, was awarded a symbolic euro of compensation.
In the same city, officers of the Republican Guard responsible for securing the Tour de France were enjoying an evening with colleagues when they were assaulted.
While they had finished their service, six gendarmes of the motorized platoon of the Republican Guard were assaulted in July in the evening in Montpellier (Hérault), according to information published by Le Parisien. They spent an evening with colleagues after a day on a motorcycle during which they had guarded and secured the stage of the Tour de France.
Around 11:10pm, when they were no longer in uniform, the police officers noticed two Romani teenagers who were breaking the mirrors of several cars. They decided to intervene and wanted to detain the two thugs until the arrival of the police.
In the meantime, however, the two teenagers from the Romani community had called for reinforcements. Three cars then arrived on the spot soon after and twelve men got out. They started attacking the gendarmes.
The attack was finally interrupted by the arrival of a police patrol, but one of the gendarmes, injured, had to be transported to the hospital. According to Midi Libre, they had “received several kicks”.
The attackers fled and they have not been arrested yet. The investigation was entrusted to the police station of Montpellier.
