A judicial source learned that an associate alerted the police after discovering the messages of jihadist propaganda posted by the aid on his Facebook page.

On January 25 a preliminary investigation was opened, according to a source close to the file.

Investigations have been entrusted to the Crimes Against a Person (BRDP) Brigade.

According to Le Canard Enchainé, who revealed the case, the young man’s Facebook page contained calls for jihad and images of slitting throats. It had been taken off the page for a while before reappearing in Arabic, according to the weekly.

Asked by AFP, the senator confirmed the investigation of the parliamentary aid, without advancing further details.

Meanwhile French police on Tuesday arrested three men suspected of planning a terror attack after raids were carried out in Paris, Marseille and Clermont-Ferrand, legal sources said.

The raids were ordered by anti-terrorism prosecutors in Paris, according to a judicial source. Officers found ingredients used to make TATP, a highly unstable homemade explosive used in the November 2015 attacks in Paris.

In Clermont-Ferrand, a bomb-disposal squad stopped a sufficiently advanced operation at the home of a 37-year-old suspect.

Earlier, four people, including a 16-year-old girl near Montpellier, on suspicion they were planning an “imminent” attack. France remains on high alert after a series of jihadist attacks. Three were charged with terrorist offences.
