Kissing feet, licking boots and taking a knee is evidently no longer good enough to show white guilt. The police chief decided that lying face down on his stomach, with his hands behind his back would be even better. This display of servitude lasted for a whole eight minutes.

While many demonstrators attacked the police during rallies, Michael Shaw, the police chief of Webster rather wanted to denounce police violence and “white racism”. In a video posted by a demonstrator, he lies down wearing a mask. Some demonstrators also imitated the police chief by lying on their stomachs chanting “Thank you G [George Floyd]”.

In another video, we see Michael Shaw standing this time. He gives a speech in front of the crowd. The chief of police said in particular: “Your message was heard loudly and clearly,” before receiving cheers.

Since the death of George Floyd, this African-American who died during his arrest in Minneapolis, putting a knee on the ground has become both a symbol of tribute to the victim, but also a militant gesture of protest against racism and “police violence” against Africans.

But police chief Shaw may be worried about his job after calls from BLM activists that the police force should be taken down.

Around the world, many anonymous people, but also police officers, certain political leaders and certain personalities have knelt down, sometimes in the middle of the street, to join this movement. Among them, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the democratic candidate Joe Biden or the mayor of Minneapolis Jacob Frey, recently taken to task by demonstrators because he had refused to abolish the police.

In Minneapolis, the city where George Floyd died, police will be dismantled however. The African-American suspect was killed by a police officer on May 25 while committing a crime.

For the potentially reprehensible acts of a police officer, several thousand of them have had their reputation tarnished. Minneapolis city councilors said on Sunday June 7 that city police will be “dismantled” after protests following the death of Floyd.

“We are committed to dismantling the police force as we know it in the city of Minneapolis and to rebuilding with our population a new model of public security which really ensures the safety of our population,” explained Lisa Bender, President of the Municipal Council, on CNN.

The politician added that she plans to transfer funds for the Minneapolis police to population-based projects. And if the city council is going to work on a way to replace the police now in place, “the idea of not having a police force is certainly not a short-term project,” Lisa Bender added.

According to a Minneapolis city councilor, Alondra Cano, the council concluded that the city police were “not reformable”. A decision was therefore made to “end the current policing system”.

“We recognize that we don’t have all the answers about what a police-free future looks like, but our community does. We’re committing to engaging with every willing community member in the City of Minneapolis over the next year to identify what safety looks like for you,” the Minneapolis City Council noted in describing their “veto-proof majority”.

And while the media is focused solely on race-based police violence implicating whites, inhabitants of Chicago witnessed another deadly weekend of inner-city black on black violence, with over 30 people shot. “Three people are dead and at least 28 others have been injured in shootings across the city this weekend,” a Chicago NBC affiliate reported.

In fact, during the Memorial Day weekend in which George Floyd died in Minnesota, Chicago witnessed a massive 50 people shot in one of the city’s deadliest ever holiday weekends. No mainstream media outlet showed the slightest interest in the alarming death toll.

Faced with this dire reality, the black mayor of the city urged citizens to call the police…
