Frauke Petry, Marine Le Pen form ‘political friendship’

Two of the leading conservative politicians in Europe, Frauke Petry (AfD) and Marine Le Pen (FN), met each other and dined in a restaurant near Strasbourg in July. The meeting was “very cordial” and the two women formed a “political friendship”, according to a representative of the Front National who attended the meeting.
The meeting attests to the increasingly mainstream positions that their parties occupy in, respectively, Germany and France. Although some members of the AfD are opposed to what is termed “Marine Le Pen’s socialist economic policies”, others like Björn Höcke feel strongly that the two parties should cooperate more closely.
