Paris Christmas market: ‘I buy black’
"Je Consomme Noir": In Paris, a Christmas market has been reserved for black traders only and the organizers are partners of the Paris mayor and the Ile de France Region.

Le Hasard Ludique reported that the market had been organized for the first weekend of the month in the 18th arrondissement, and the event brought together the products of “African creators and Afro-descendants”.
On social networks, internet users who subscribe to the notion of a “colourless society” expressed their incomprehension. Organized by the association “Je Consomme Noir”, the food, alcohol, clothing, books and beauty products on sale all had one thing in common – expressing a racial identity.
Contacted by French daily Le Figaro, the association which presents itself as “a platform aimed at supporting black businesses, hosted by volunteers”, did not want to enter into any debate. “We do not do politics, we want to send a positive message, doing things for our community”, explained a volunteer who wanted customers “of all races” to support exclusively black traders.
“But we were waiting for this type of critique,” she admitted.
