Russian Foreign Minister: War in Ukraine designed to end US dominance
The Russian special operation is designed to put an end to the US course of dominance in the world, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Although never officially postulated, this is the strategic goal of the Russian Federation’s operation in Ukraine. It was nevertheless already clear that the outcome of the operation in Ukraine would determine the future world order.
“Our special military operation is designed to put an end to the reckless expansion and reckless course towards complete domination by the United States and, under them, the remainder of Western countries on the world stage,” Lavrov said. The conflict in Ukraine, therefore, is not a “war between Ukraine and Russia”, but a US attack on Russia, as the strategic goal of the United States is to defeat Russia in support of their world hegemony. President Zelensky is simply one of President Biden’s puppets trying to bait Russia into a long conflict.
“This domination is built on gross violations of international law and under some rules, which they are now hyping so much and which they make up on a case-by-case basis. Kosovo can be recognized as independent without a referendum. Crimea cannot, despite holding a referendum observed by [international observers],” he pointed out.
“In Iraq, 10 000 kilometers away from the US, they imagined some threat to their national security. They bombed it, found no threat. And didn’t even say they were sorry. But when right at our border they grow neo-Nazi ultra-radicals, create dozens of biolabs […] working on bioweapons, as documents prove, we are told we are not allowed to react to those threats,” he added.
During the Ukraine security crisis, the EU’s role changed from an economic union into a military organization “fighting collectively against an invented threat”. Lavrov said the change was due to pressure from Washington.
“This is an utterly serious change, even in the policy that the EU and the West under US leadership – there is no doubt about it – began to pursue after the start of our special military operation. A policy that reflects anger, in some ways even frenzy, and which, of course, is determined not only by [the situation in] Ukraine, but by Ukraine being transformed into a foothold for the final suppression of Russia,” Lavrov explained.
Regarding Josep Borrell, the EU’s Foreign Affairs and Security Policy representative, Lavrov was scathing: “When a diplomatic chief … says a certain conflict can only be resolved through military action… Well, it must be something personal. He either misspoke or spoke without thinking, making a statement that nobody asked him to make. But it’s an outrageous remark.
“Western propaganda shifted gear into depicting Russia as pure evil and [Ukraine] as pure good. The current Ukrainian regime is presumably a beacon of democracy, justice, freedom that is drawn to everything European, to the values that Europe claims it always adhered to,” the minister said.
Italian interview with Russian presidential advisor
Sergey Karaganov, a heavy-weight Russian political scientist and presidential advisor in Moscow, noted in an interview with the Italian daily Corriere Della Sera that Russia was at war with the West and that the European security order was “illegitimate”.
“For 25 years people like myself have said that NATO expansion would lead to war. Putin said several times that if it came to Ukraine becoming a member of NATO, there would be no Ukraine anymore. In Bucharest in 2008 there was a plan of quick accession of Ukraine and Georgia to NATO. It was blocked by the efforts of Germany and France, but since that time Ukraine has been integrated into NATO. It was pumped up by weaponry and its troops were trained by NATO, their army getting stronger and stronger day by day. […]
“The war was inevitable, they were a spearhead of NATO. We made the very hard decision to strike first, before the threat becomes deadlier.”
French volunteers told by US officers that they would be under US command
Régis Le Sommier, a French war reporter, recently confirmed the observations by Lavrov and Karaganov of the intent of the US to attack Russia and Ukraine merely becoming a flimsy excuse in achieving that goal. When Le Sommier arrived in Ukraine in the company of two French volunteers wishing to join the Ukrainian army, they were met by American military officers who explained to them in no uncertain terms that they were now under US command.
Régis Le Sommier is a 53 year old French journalist who extensively covered warzones such as Irak, Syria and Afghanistan, and is the only French journalist to have sat down in the White House with President George W. Bush.
