A wave of car arson hits Aarhus and Copenhagen
In the first nine months of 2019, according to the National Police, there were 648 cars torched in Denmark. This is the highest level in four years when the total number of torched cars in the country is calculated.

Jyllands-Posten reported that especially the immigrant-populated areas in Aarhus West and Copenhagen North-West were hit hard. The Danish daily called these areas “stressed neighbourhoods”.
According to Jyllands-Posten, head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Copenhagen Police, Deputy Police Inspector Brian Belling, there was no evidence to suggest that there is a connection between car arson and residents in the socially stressed areas.
“But why do you see more car fires in Nørrebro and in Copenhagen NV and not in Vesterbro?” a reported asked Belling.
“I cant say that. Your guess is as good as mine. But the fluctuations we can see in the number of car arson cases have been in connection with the unrest at Nørrebro. And there have been no disturbances at Vesterbro or in Valby,” Belling explained.
The newspaper has covered the problems of car arson several times already and it often happens in immigrant-dense areas. For example, at the beginning of the month, in Copenhagen and Aarhus cars were torched in five different places.
At least 27 cars burned out or were badly damaged. This happened especially in the immigrant-dense Aarhus West.
And recently, shortly before midnight, TV2 reported that five cars burned at four different addresses in Copenhagen.
The problem of the onset of car arson is known in several other European countries. A violent wave of car arson plagued Sweden before the parliamentary elections in September 2018.
In recent days, about 30 cars in suburbs north and south of Stockholm were torched. Residents were awakened by an explosion and fire.
They told Aftonbladet that in Märsta, a suburb north of Stockholm, but also in Tingvalla and Valsta at least 19 cars were set alight – most were totally burnt out, the newspaper writes.
At the same time, an object exploded in a hair salon in Tingvalla. Police confirmed that an object had caused a powerful explosion and they blocked off the area.
In mid-August there was a storm of cars set on fire in the migrant suburbs of Stockholm and the Malmö area, with some 100 cars burned.
