AIPAC cheers US midterm results

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) expressed satisfaction with the US midterm election outcome. Republican voters, on the other hand, deplored their party's weak performance.

    “Biden, despite his low approval rating and relative absence on the campaign trail, will likely be able to claim the best midterm performance for an incumbent president’s party in 20 years, since George W Bush’s Republicans gained seats in the election following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks,” Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.

    The pro-Israel lobby AIPAC nevertheless, hailed the success of the candidates they fielded for both parties. “So far, 309 AIPAC-backed candidates have won their elections! We are proud to stand with pro-Israel Democrats and Republicans to strengthen bipartisan support for the US-Israel relationship,” it tweeted and added: “Being pro-Israel is good policy and good politics.”

    They said their efforts — including successfully defeating nine anti-Israel candidates — sent a clear message that “those who seek to undermine America’s partnership with Israel can expect a strong and unyielding political response”.

    Demography watchers chalked up the better than expected performance of Democrat candidates to mass immigration, with white voters choosing red (Republican) and non-whites largely voting blue (Democrat).
