US ‘took out the Nord Stream pipeline’
The famed American journalist Seymour Hersh cited sources close to the covert operation in which the US and NATO conspired to blow up a Russian gas pipeline. In fact, the US had planned the bombing of the Nord Stream pipelines well in advance of Russia’s incursion into Ukraine.

To avoid being exposed for committing “an act of war”, the operation was kept secret, according to Hersh. He published the explosive article called “How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline” on SubStack on Wednesday, citing sources “close to the operation”.
In June 2022, US Navy divers, operating under the cover of a widely publicized mid-summer NATO exercise known as BALTOPS 22, planted the remotely triggered explosives that, three months later, destroyed three of the four Nord Stream pipelines.
Nord Stream 1 had been providing Germany and the EU with Russian gas for more than a decade. A second pair of pipelines, called Nord Stream 2, had been built but were not yet operational.
Adrienne Watson, a White House spokesperson, denied US involvement. “This is false and complete fiction.” Tammy Thorp, a spokesperson for the Central Intelligence Agency, also rejected the claims: “This claim is completely and utterly false.”
President Biden had warned that the Nord Stream pipelines would be destroyed before the operation in Ukraine even kicked off.
Sources with direct knowledge of the operational planning, also maintained that Norway was deeply implicated in sabotaging the pipeline. The bombs planted during BALTOPS 22 were detonated by a remote signal sent by a sonar buoy. The buoy was dropped near the Nord Stream pipelines by a Norwegian Navy P8 surveillance plane, according to the report.
“Some working guys in the CIA and the State Department were saying, ‘Don’t do this. It’s stupid and will be a political nightmare if it comes out,’” according to the source.
